Junior IBU Trip Days 7 & 8

It has been nice to have a two day break from racing. Tomorrow is the start of the Junior Open European Championships! We will begin with racing the 12.5k individual for a second time within less than a week.

These last two days have been recovery, school work, exploring, and race prepping for tomorrow.

We found a laundromat in the next town over and went for an exploration walk to check things out while our clothes were washing.

We came across a beautiful gothic church that was built in the 1300s. Unfortunately we couldn’t go inside, but we could look!

An interesting thing we learned was that we are allowed to cross at the crosswalks whenever we want. It was strange to initiate so we crossed when the locals did.

We also stopped at a small bakery. I decided to try a cheese danish with some sort of sweet date paste.

So far there have been many uniquely fun and cute statues in the towns we’ve been in.

Last night the team explored the basement of the hotel. It has a two lane bowling alley and it was fun to play a game. I am not very good at ball sports but had fun trying to knock down the pins!

Today we returned back to the venue to ski. The course was a little mushy because they put fresh snow down to cover the rain puddles. They have snow stashed in a big pile on reserve to patch the course as needed! The temperatures have not gotten below freezing so the snow likely won’t have time to set before we race on it tomorrow.

It looks like it may snow in the afternoon! I’m hoping it will be dry in the morning for the girls race!
