Biathlon State Championships

Just like that, the local race season comes to an end. Biathlon State Champs happen over the first weekend in March every year.

Yesterday we had a shortened sprint because of the cold and windy weather! Shooting in standing was difficult, but it was all another good experience. The race was so quick making it was hard to get warmed up between shooting stages.

After every sprint we race a pursuit. Athletes start in the order they finished the day before. Today, a single racer left the start line every five seconds. The weather was so much nicer today. The sun finally came out and the wind died down for the first time this week. It was still tougher shooting but many athletes did very well despite the breeze.

Thanks ABC for hosting and to all of the parents who helped make it happen once again. Tomorrow is an exciting recovery day! I will be volunteering for the Nordic Ski Association to help my mom take pictures for the Tour of Anchorage. I will have the chance to cheer for my friends, coaches, and some of the best athletes in the the state!

My next races will be Junior Nationals in Lake Placid New York! I am leaving on Wednesday already. There’s still so much left to look forward to this season!
