Training, Connecting, and Reflecting While Away From Home

Wow, summer went by just like that!

I got to end my summer with a splash of sun in Wisconsin and Lake Placid, New York. I had accepted the invitation to attend the Elite Development Camp once again this year. This is a special experience getting to connect with other biathletes from across the country that share an interest and dedication to this sport. I left with some good takeaways that I will be incorporating into my fall training sessions.

My personal camp highlight was having the opportunity to meet Andra Henkel Burke who spent an afternoon answering our questions. She answered every question with wisdom and guidance that comes from becoming an elite athlete in this sport from a young age. Andrea is a great inspiration to me! She has many great olympic and world cup accomplishments in addition to a successful career. She has become someone who lets young athletes believe anything can be possible. Andrea’s blog covers everything from physical training to mental aspects of high level competition.

Getting this time with Andrea was very special and inspirational!

I concluded my time away from Alaska with a fun week in Wisconsin! That included a spontaneous roller ski biathlon race in Elk River, Minnesota! I loved seeing another shooting range and spending time with the awesome Midwest biathlon community!

After finally experiencing some summer heat in the Midwest and getting in more great biathlon experiences, I was ready to return home! Everything is back in full swing here in AK. School and training are keeping me busy. I’m always happy to make time to get out in the mountains and on the trails whenever I can!

Thanks so much to those of you who are supporting me through this exciting year. I could not do this without you.
